As usual, the politically active 1199 SEIU labor union is donating heavily this fall to both parties.
The union?s name is dominating the early 24-hour notices via the state Board of Elections website. And for now, it appears their largesse is primarily going to Republican candidates and causes in the state Senate.
So far, 1199 has donated $50,000 to Senate Republican Campaign Committee, as well as $5,000 to Republican Sen. Carl Marcellino and $2,500 to Sen. Michael Razenhofer.
The union back in September cut another $50,000 to the New York Democratic Committee. That same month the group did contribute $6,500 to Queens Democratic Sen. Toby Ann Stavisky who had faced a potentially close primary, but was ultimately victorious.
Filings through Oct. 20 show 1199 has contributed more than $486,000?so far this year.
For a point of comparison, numbers man Bill Mahoney at NYPIRG says the union gave a total $1.4 million the 2010 election cycle, with $1.8 million coming the state United Teachers union.
Public-worker unions PEF and CSEA gave $724,879 and $576,816 respectively.
