In the annual celebration of Farm-City Week, North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Yancey County Center, in cooperation with local civic organizations and sponsors, would like to recognize members of the community who have made a difference in the lives of the citizens of?Yancey County.? Yancey County is blessed with many citizens who dedicate their time and talents to benefit others.? The following award recipients will be recognized with a plaque at the annual Farm City Week breakfast held the first Thursday in December:
Educator:?Teacher, Principal, or instructor who has exemplified extraordinary dedication to the education of the citizens of Yancey County.??? Sponsored by:??Yancey County Retired Teachers Association.
Farmer:? A farmer who has worked to satisfy the agricultural needs of the people of the county, and to improve agricultural standards in our area. Sponsor:??Lion?s Club
Youth:? Any high school student that has made particular accomplishments in community service, leadership, academics, or extracurricular activities.? Sponsor:??Tammy McEntyre, Clerk of Superior Court
Homemaker:? Any citizen of Yancey County who embodies the spirit of homemaking and care giving.? Sponsor:??Extension & Community Association
Business & Industry:? Any citizen who has promoted Business and Industry and supported the growth of the local economy.? This award alternates each year between Business and Industry.? This year we will recognize?Industry.? Sponsor:??Burnsville Men?s Club
Sustainable Agriculture:? Anyone who promotes farmland preservation and farming practices that enhance long-term productivity of the land. Sponsor:??Carolina Farm Stewardship Association.
Citizenship:? Anyone in the community who volunteers to help make the community and county better, cleaner, or safer.? Sponsor:??Chamber of Commerce
Next Generation in Agriculture:? Anyone under 30 years of age who is demonstrating a commitment to a career in agriculture.? Sponsor:??Farmers Market
Women in Agriculture:? Any woman actively involved or one who inspires other women to be actively involved in agriculture.? Sponsor:??Rotary Club
Unsung Hero:?? Anyone who works behind the scenes to help get the job done in a supportive or service role.? (Example:? customer service, support personnel, etc.)?? Sponsor:??Rabek, Boothe & Associates
Women in Business:?? Any woman who has promoted Business and supported the growth of the local economy.? Sponsor:??Joyce Watts
